Things to know
We begin editing at 10 am so you need to arrive with all you need to begin, we do not spend 15 minutes fluffing around. You need a draft, it does not have to include intro and conclusion. You must have a printed copy of your entire draft manuscript with you. It is not for writing your draft. If you want the printing to be done for free using my staff account you need to be there well before 10. Bring a red pen. All we do is edit. You don’t edit someone else’s, you just edit yours.
We did this the first time last year to universal endorsement as setting aside the time in a structured way, in a room full of people doing the same thing, helps in making it happen. It is an exhausting two days. You will complete at a minimum a complete edit of your draft in these two days. We will hopefully repeat it.
On the Wednesday the honours program will provide you with a catered lunch from Pearson and Murphy’s. On the second day you need to bring a contribution for a shared lunch. I would recommend a debrief on Thursday after the day (eg the pub) to wind down.
We do editing pomodoro’s all day. We do not edit on screen (will tell you why on the day, if you’re in doubt then put it down for now as one of those moments where you’re being asked to trust someone else’s experience) but edit on paper.
