Added some posts to media objects lab out of today’s class. Some new members to the FaceBook group (welcome). Added a new required reading to media objects reading page. Answered some questions from supervisors and will be reminding them this week that next week they need to register as supervisors. Posted to Facebook about next Friday’s small assessment, and to strategies blog and to general blog (coverage). Updated stuff on Facebook about SSCC – Daniel and Jaine are members and first meeting is next Tuesday.
Apologies, this is something forgot to discuss/show in research strategies. your first research proposal needs to be written out as a *short* essay and submitted next Friday (March 21). It also requires a four sentence abstract. this is described at http://blogs.consiliencelab.org.au/research-practice/four-sentence-abstract-form/ and is also listed under the ‘tool kit’ menu and page in the strategies blog. We will also do this 4 sentence exercise on Wednesday. This is not assessed critically, it is more a ‘hurdle’ task to make sure you have this sorted.
Have added class names to each lab blog in their respective blog rolls. If you’re not there then you haven’t sent me your blog details or asked for a blog yet.
Added a new section to the tool kit outlining a writing strategy, which we will be using.
Added the next readings for research strategies…
In the process of writing outline for the second strategies class, may nor may not appear in the strategies blog before Tuesday.
FYI: Don’t expect to be doing this everyday…. Have played with MacJournal, which I list on the tool kit page. Nah, can’t recommend it. The program is for journalling that happens to be able to post to a blog, so it is pretty dumb in what it can do in relation to a blog (recognise tags, categories, and so on). I am now trialling MarsEdit. Much better. MacJournal no. MarsEdit, currently a possible yes. Ecto is still good, but as I write on the tool kit page, it has not been upgraded for several years so there’s no longer support. This means a system update will break it one day.
Asked for interest about joining the SSCC… Near silence to date (which is fine, if as a body you don’t feel the need for one, then not a lot to be done about it).
Added a link to OWL in the research practice blog (in the list of sites). OWL is a writing program at Purdue Uni in the states and it hosts perhaps the best collection of citation style guides in the one place out there.
Posted some stuff to the research practice blog (check the blog part in there, which is under the ‘rushes’ menu.
In the media objects blog have added some new menus to pick up the posts that are happening. On the main site (i.e. here) as the blog form has been completed for research strategies your names and blogs have been created and added to the blog roll. Been questions about what is needed to confirm supervisors. In week 3 you will submit your topic and supervisor (or your supervisor will), this is when it is officially recorded. Remember, if you don’t have a blog you need to ask for one (see blog form above).
Consilience lab is site for news, about the course, day to day, not tied to any particular subject. Then each lab has a blog. And research strategies has a blog too. These have assessments, readings, links, and whatever else might be relevant just for that subject. So the blog you’re reading here is generic news. Relevant to everyone. Why isn’t that in research strategies you wonder? Because that subject only really runs a semester where as here I can post news, announcements, events, etc without having to wonder if it is relevant to that subject.
